DLSA undertakes week-long legal campaign

Dimapur, Feb 28: Various district legal services authorities under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) undertook a week-long legal campaign in their respective jurisdiction.
Peren DLSA: In Peren, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of Peren District Legal Services Authority, Mrs. Somet Chang along with Prosecutor Italang Ramlia, Retainer Lawyer Asungbe and others visited District Jail Peren and interacted with the inmates and apprised them on the status of the case in the court.
The Jail authorities were informed to ensure the various rights of prisoners and facilities to be made available to the under trial prisoners. Somet Chang also stated that she was impressed with the Jail authorities’ caretaking and functioning.
Later, the team visited the Observation Home Peren. The officials highlighted the caretaker on various provisions under the law that need to be applied to homes. The children were sensitised on their rights and duties to be a good citizen.A legal literacy programme was also with the students at Government Middle School, Jalukie, in which Prosecutor Italung Ramlia and Retainer Lawyer Asungbe spoke on the Right to Education, awareness on child rights issues and various legal provision on Child Rights.
Phek DLSA: Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of Phek District Legal Services Authority Mrs. MT Therieh visited Observation Home Phek and interacted with the residents on the various provisions. Therieh expressed her satisfaction with the managing team running the Observation home.
Zunheboto DLSA: In Zunheboto, Retainer Lawyer of Nagaland Sate Legal Services Authority Tovi Yeptho and his team visited Mount Carmel Children’s Home in Sukhalu village. Interacting with the children, the lawyer informed them of their various rights under the law. Caretakers of the home were also apprised of their functions, roles and duties.
Kohima DLSA: Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of Kohima District Legal Services Authority, Mrs. MT Therieh and Retainer Lawyer K Theunuo and other panel lawyers organised a programme with elderly persons at Kohima Old Age Home on February 26. Chief Judicial Magistrate said the Home is fortunate to be managed by a dedicated proprietor Mrs. Nithono.
On February 27, Kohima District Legal Services Authority officials led by Secretary Mrs. Therieh visited Observation Home apprised on various provisions of law as regards to observation home.
A press released from the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority informed that it has recently relocated its office to the basement of the Kohima District Court Building near Deputy Commissioner office complex, Kohima. It has proposed to conduct district wise Para Legal Volunteers orientation training covering all the 11 districts.
The release further informed that it is mobilising Master Trainers (TOT) and Legal Aid Counsels to organise orientation training programme along with the respective secretaries of District Legal Services Authority in the month of March.
