Dimapur, Sep. 26 (EMN): As part of the nation-wide programme, the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of ten different districts have launched Legal Literacy Clubs (LLCs) in 39 school in their respective districts during the month of August and September.

The districts where the LLCs were opened were Mokokchung, Wokha, Dimapur, Zunheboto, Longleng, Kohima, Kiphire, Phek, Tuensang and Mon. More LLCs will be opened at Phek and Peren in the month of September, the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority informed a press release.

The clubs were equipped with computer, printer, furniture and books for the purpose of running their activities.

The release stated that the scheme of Legal Literacy clubs has been formulated by the National Legal Services Authority with an idea to spread knowledge of the legal rights and duties; to give legal suggestions to the poor and needy for their various problems and for providing legal literacy and legal services programmes without causing any detriment to the student’s study curriculum

Saying that it is a nation-wide scheme, the release stated that the club comprises of students of Class-IX and above in schools and “second year and below” in colleges as members. The number of the members should not less than 10 and not more 25.

The club runs under the guidance of a “teacher-in-charge” nominated by the head of the institution in consultation with the National Service Scheme (NSS); and it functions under the overall supervision of the headmaster or principal of the respective institutions, the release stated.
