DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 30

The 18th annual general meeting of Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (DIMUL) was held today at Dimapur DIMUL Dairy.
DIMUL Chairman V. Kehie in his report informed that the annual turnover for the year 2014-15 was Rs. 948.75 lakhs which is 38.84 % decrease as compared to previous year’s. “As a result of economic liberalization, the cooperatives have to operate in an environment competition” stated Kehie. He mentioned that the cooperatives are now required to compete with the multinational companies as well as the private traders and in view of the globalization and increasing purchasing power of consumers, there is large scope for milk industry to grow.
The recorded turnover of sales distribution from various milk products are toned milk with 55.66%, Lassi with 30.72%, Misti Dahi with 4.61%, Ice cream with 3.97% and Cattle Feed with 2.42%.
The report surprisingly highlighted that the sale of lassi and ice cream have not improved as compared to the previous years and this, the report stated has been attributed to the revision of price of lassi and ice cream in order to maintain a balanced cost of production. However, the situation may be inferred as an indication of healthy market competition between cooperatives and other multinational brand and private players. “Much more milk needs to be produced to meet the rising demand for consumption, as the population increases and income levels rise as also to fulfill the nutritional needs of the community” stressed Kehie. He also underlined that special effort has to be made to improve the yield of milk per head of cattle through programmes of cross-breeding, better feedstock and adequate healthcare. Stating that to accelerate the pace of progress in these fields, closer cooperation between the Union and producers’ cooperatives is vital, Kehie said and appealed to producers and farmers to seize the opportunity and increase the quality of milk production so as to enhance income level to improve economic status of the producers.
On the occasion members were awarded on various categories where Best Dairy Cooperative Society was awarded to Kikhruru DCS, Chumukedima, Best Secretary awarded to Chatra Thapa, Secretary, Bhola, DCS, Singrijan, Best Producer awarded to Pom Bahadur of Everest DCS, Chumukedima, Best Worker awarded to N.Sharma, Best Retailer awarded to R.K.Chodhury, Dimapur and Best Distributor awarded to Sanmati Traders Dimapur.
