Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN): In a clear indication of division among the GBs in Dimapur district, members who claimed themselves ‘majority and law-abiding GBs with majority tribes,’ have endorsed new team of office bearers for the tenure 2019-2023.

The decision to endorse new team of office bearers was made in its general body meeting on February 5 held in CPO Hall, Chumoukedima. The new office bearers is headed by Longer Janir Ao as president; Tsenthungo Lotha, L Kapfo Chakhesang, and Isawoto Jimomi as vice presidents; Atso Angami (Chumoukedima) as general secretary; Rambilal Kachari (Dhansiripar), Akok Phom, and Kavipfüle Kuyie as joint secretaries; Luikang Zeliang as information secretary; PC Kamei Rongmei as finance secretary; P Dohoi Swu as banker; and Thrikongse Sangtam as convenor of customary law court.

In a representation to the deputy commissioner, Dimapur, jointly appended by the convenor and president of Dimapur Angami GBs’ Union Thepfukedo Kudtsu, president of Dimapur Lotha GBs’ Union N Ngullie, president of Dimapur Ao GBs’ Union and sessional secretary Luikang Zeliang urged the former to take necessary measures to uphold the constitutionally formed Dimapur District GBs’ Association (DDGBA) for further correspondence. The representation also stated that the endorsement was made by upholding the search committee report.

It reminded of past letters dated January 18 and 23, 2019, with regard to selection of office bearers of DDGBA for the tenure 2019-2023, which it alleged was exercised by a minority group in unconstitutional way and ignoring the search committee’s report. For selection of office bearers, it pointed out that as per its constitution No. 14 there was no provision of election.

“However, violating the said constitution the un-mandated group with vested interest conducted the election which cannot be accepted by the majority of tribal GBs in Dimapur district,” the representation stated.

In the light of the above stated circumstances, the representation has urged the deputy commissioner to take constitutional measures before it is too late, adding “in the event of failure to uphold the constitutionally formed DDGBA there is no point of going back to the unconstitutionally formed group.”
