Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): The foot over-bridge at Plaza Point, Dimapur, constructed by Road and Bridges Department under central fund decades ago, is getting rusty posing serious threat to pedestrians and calls for immediate repair.

The bridge, which was inaugurated by former minister of Road and Bridges, Khutovi Sumi on May 22, 2004, is considered an important path for most of the pedestrians and particularly school going students who use the bridge on a daily basis to reach their destination safe and on time. The foot-bridge, which is exposed to sun and rain, has corrugated and need timely maintenance before it invite big mishap.

One official of Road and Bridges department informed Eastern Mirror that the foot over bridge was the department’s look-out under Road 2 sub-divisions. However, he added that no report had been received till date regarding the present condition of the foot bridge.

However, when the condition of the bridge was highlighted over a telephonic conversation, he mentioned that the matter will be taken up soon by informing his subordinate officers to assign a junior engineer and fix a particular date to inspect the site and present report as early as possible.

The foot over bridge does not only serve as a means to take a pedestrian on the other side safely but also stands as a centre of attraction for Dimapur town especially during festive season as it usually gets covered with lights and decorations that attract many pedestrians to take a stroll crossing the foot bridge and enjoy the view from top.
