Dimapur flood situation improves, relief camp set up

Dimapur, July 21 (EMN):The flood situation in Dimapur improved significantly today after water levels receded although scores of families had been affected during the two day Dimapur downpour. However the bridge over Dhansiri river in Kuda B Khel Nagarjan continues to pose as a threat with one to two inches of the slabs sloping informed Kuda Youth Club (KYC) President Vitusielie Sakhrie who are monitoring the restriction of pedestrain and vehicle.
Relief and rescue operations gained pace today following improvement in the situation. Naharbari village was which severely affected and 82 Naga family and 472 non Naga family on Thursday were provided with basic food materials with Rs. 50,000 in cash through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Friday by the Dimapur EAC, informed a resident of Naharbari village.
According to a report from DIPR, 114 marooned by the downpour at Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia) village have been rescued by a combined team of Nagaland State Disaster Managament Authority (NSDMA), 32 Assam Rifles, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur, district administration and local people with no casualty although the village continues to be severely affected with the rise of water level. The day long rescue on Thursday and evacuation operation continued till 7 pm.
The evacuated people have been sheltered at Government Middle School, Ekhyo Yan and will continue to be sheltered in the school until proper rehabilitation.
Gaonbura of Ekhyo Yan, Mensemo Kithan informed that the affected area was inhabited by around 40 households who are mostly vegetable farmers and although there was no report of casualty, many thatch houses, agri crops and livestocks has been swept away by the flash flood.
As per reports, Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia) village, Khushiabill, Toulazouma village, Khopanulla area, Thahekhu block 7, and Naharbari are the areas which have been severly affected by the monsoon.
Flood relief extended to victims
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Dimapur said with the flood situation under control and water level receding, the team are assisting with flood relief camp and informed that a relief camp have been set up at Dimapur District Sports Complex (DDSC) Stadium.
Food unit of Dimapur district Incident Response System (IRS) distributed food items including rice, dal, potatoes, salt and mineral water to the displaced people camped at Naharbari and Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia) on Thursday. Also, the 32 Assam Rifles distributed food packets to the flood affected victims at Ekhyo Yan today.
The rescue operation was led by Commissioner & Secretary NSDMA, Khrienuo Metha, C.O. 32 AR, 6 Sector IGAR North, Col. V.S Shikawar and OSD, NSDMA, Johnny. Col. Shikarwar informed that their unit will be providing lunch to the flood affected for some more days while the medical unit will also render help.

Relief camp at DDSC stadium

To address the flood situation under Dimapur district, Dimapur District Incident Response System (IRS) has been formed with DC Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome as the RO and ADC DIMAPUR Sara Jamir as the Incident Commander.
The IRS structure had been divided into Operation sector, Transport Branch, Logistics and shelter unit, Food unit, Medical unit and evacuation unit where officers from various departments and DDMA members has been assigned to take care of their respective units.
Relief and Rehabilitation camp for flood victims of Dimapur will be set up in the DDSC stadium Dimapur. DC Dimapur has directed all the sections for setting up specific units immediately.
All concerned public and NGOs are also informed to contact the officers at the Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) for any assistance, donations towards the flood victims.

Medical coverage plan for affected areas

In response to the flood situation in the district, the medical department under the CMO has also restructured the medical coverage to be given by its health units in the district.
