Did not say to vote or not for particular party —NBCC

Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on Wed. clarified that it had not told voters whether or not to vote for any particular political party as was ‘alleged.’

A clarification from the organisation’s media and publicity cell stated also that it had never appealed to the voters to vote for ‘Naga Identity.’

press statement from the church council was meant to clarify a statement sent out by the convenor of the Clean Election campaign of the NBCC on Feb.20 that was published in the local newspapers on Wed.

In the statement the convenor of had stated that, “It [sic] also stated that, it is a time to choose our future with Christian and Naga identity and encourages its members to have allegiance towards one’s faith, rather than by going with any communal party, as Christians over the last 150 years and moreover, our Nagas’ slogan- ‘Nagaland for Christ’ neither be misused nor be used for the benefits of any political party and individuals.”

Along with the clarification the NBCC stated that the council continues to ‘plead to the conscience of the voters’  that the matter of our ‘faith plays an important role’ and appealed to the voters ‘not to be swayed away by any ill motives.’

“And in a time such as this NBCC stands clear on Clean Election platform to vote right and without influence. In this crucial time NBCC also appeal to the voters,” it added.
