DGP XI, Head Hunters, Naga FC, MDFA enter semis

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 26

DGP XI blanked Falcon FC of Jalukie ‘B’ by 5-1 to enter the semifinal of the ongoing Captain Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament.
Playing the first match today at Kohima Local Ground, the DGP XI, who earlier downed the HQ IGAR (North) in the preliminary round, cruised into the last four with ease.
The DGP team, who dominated the entire match proceedings, made an early breakthrough in the 6th minute when their defender Yanger got past the keeper.
The police team scored the second goal through their midfielder Ninja in the 17th minute. Trailing behind, the Falcon FC fought back to stay in the game as Kewilungsubo scored in the 25th minute.
Entering the second half, the DGP XI scored again in the 64th minute through Kedithumbo to make it 3-1.
Moving into the final minutes of the 80 minute-match, DGP’s striker Saku delivered in the 71st minute, while substitute player Roko scored the fifth goal in the 78th minute to take the score line to 5-1.
In the second match, the 164 TA Head Hunters, Naga Regiment, overcame Vanguard FC 3-1 to make through to the last four.The Head Hunters scored first through Tia Yanger in the 36th minute to end the first half 1-0 in their favour.
Entering the second half, Vanguard FC’s centre forward Yhunshalo Kemp netted the equalizer within the first four minutes (44th minute) after the interval.
The match looked equally poised until Head Hunter’s centre forward Khompei Konyak gave his team much to celebrate when he got past the keeper in the 67th minute to make it 2-1.
All out to ensure their victory, the Head Hunters found themselves way ahead when Tia Yanger scored his second goal in the 70th minute and thereby sealed the match in favour of his team.
With the victory, Head Hunters will next play against DGP XI in the semifinal on November 28 at Kohima Local Ground.
Playing at Tsiesema Basa, Naga FC also had an easy win as they beat Deenix FC by 3-0. In the second match, the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) had a narrow win against Ihoshe FC by 3-2.
Naga FC will take on MDFA in the second semifinal on November 28 at Kohima Local Ground.
