DIMAPUR, JULY 25: As part of commemorations in the run-up to a forthcoming golden jubilee, Dimapur Government College in Dimapur observed its foundation day by inaugurating two gates for the college. The gates have been named simply the ‘western gate’ and the ‘eastern gate.’
The inaugural program for said gates was conducted on July 25, Monday, in the premises of the college.
The college’s foundation day was remarkable this year as the institution gears up to mark 50 years of existence.
July the 25th is indeed a significant day for Dimapur Government College, remarked chief guest of the event, Kuholi Chishi, the additional director of the Higher Education department. She was also a former principal of the college.
“We are no longer an ordinary institution but an accredited institution which has and is a pride of Nagaland because of the contribution made 50 years ago,” the official said. Referring to the alumni, Chishi remarked that the college was proud to have brought Indians irrespective of caste, culture and religion together and have become an essential part of the institution.
Expressing her passion for teaching and learning, the additional director for Higher Education explained that an educated person will never be an unemployed person ‘unless we create a way for ourselves and not only look for white collar jobs.’
Looking forward to the 50th anniversary celebrations of Dimapur Government College, the former principal said that the day will make people know that the college was all set to bring changes to the society.
The two gates ‘western gate’ and ‘eastern gate’ was constructed by the alumni association of the college with a total budget of Rs.7 lakh.
The two gates were inaugurated by the principal of Dimapur Government College, Ngangshikokba, and Chishi.
