Department of Economics and Statistics welcomes new parliamentary secretary

Speaking during the programme, Tovihoto said that the department of Economics and Statistics was the backbone of the government. The department has been functioning as a nodal department with huge responsibilities, he said. The politician has also sought the support and cooperation of officers and staffers of the establishment to enable the department to achieve greater heights. He reminded the staffers to create a peaceful environment when discharging their duties and to have a sense of responsibility for the betterment of the department. The parliamentary secretary also informed that the new building of the directorate was on the verge of completion. He encouraged the department to execute their work ‘sincerely with team spirit for greater achievement.’ Giving a brief outline of the department, the secretary for Economics and Statistics, Kevilenuo Angami, said during the program that the government had declared the department the nodal agency for dissemination of data in the year 2009. Following this, various activities were carried out ‘for the growth of the state,’ the official stated. The director of the establishment, Y Sacheo Ovung, highlighted various activities of the department. While speaking about the challenges faced by the department, he hoped that the department would be strengthened under the leadership of the newly-inducted parliamentary secretary. The officer has called upon the officers and staffers of the establishment to be ‘more cautious’ when discharging their duties. The officer also congratulated the parliamentary secretary and assured him the full support and cooperation of the department.
