Kohima being the state capital needs to lead as a role model in infrastructural development works. The citizens of Kohima demand good roads and drainage system. A proper drainage system would not only maintain good sanitation of the town, but also protect the roads from breakdown during the monsoons.

The Government of Nagaland decided to construct a solid drainage system with RCC cover slab in Kohima town and awarded the work to M/s Multi Builders, Dimapur. They have been assigned to do the necessary construction on NH-61 from Km 0.00 to Km 6.00, for a contract price of over six crore rupees. With the onset of rainfall this month, breakdown of the newly built drainage system clearly reflects on the poor workmanship and quality of materials used. For example, drainage walls at the Bayavu junction have collapsed with a single rainfall! For a project with such a budget, this is highly unexpected and disappointing. I believe that good quality work should sustain throughout all seasons. It is evident that the construction workers are not systematic and have left a mess of the town. I urge the concerned authorities and the technical experts to kindly look into this matter on an urgent basis. Kohima deserves good quality construction work. Kohima deserves better!
