Wokha, Jan. 10 (EMN):
The advisor to the Horticulture department, Mhathung Yanthan, has asked students and youths to have a sense of responsibility, respect for elders and for the community and to engage in productive activity. He was addressing the inaugural session of the 13th general conference of the Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union (LMRSU) in Wokha district.

The advisor asked the student to work for the welfare of the students’ community and be responsible about protecting their rights, and to put God first in all that they do.

Yanthan felt that every citizen needs to shoulder problems and be responsible for failures in the society. Students of the present generation need to involve in all aspects in life though academic progress needs to be maintained, he said.

‘Reflect yourself to be presentable in the society and be skilful be good in managing time and engage in productive activities rather than doing nothing with degrees, which he said ‘will not provide you any job.’

The government leader assured though, that the Nagaland government was striving toward community development, that skilled youths would be accommodated in the future. However, he asked the young to inculcate work culture and respect every job as honourable.

Retired government officer YL Jami was the event’s speaker for the theme “wisdom is more important than knowledge.” He spoke about how in Nagaland the people are living in pathetic conditions even after 55 years of Nagaland having achieved statehood: ‘Although we have many educated leaders yet none are using wisdom to execute work and scheme sanctioned by the central government for the state.’

‘There are gaps in the system and the state is without vision and it cannot take decisions for the people,’ he said. He called upon the people to use wisdom as ‘acquired knowledge has nothing to do when it is not practical and a benefit to the society.’

Jami was of the opinion that the present generation was blessed to have ‘more knowledge through curricular activities and education.’ However, there is no progress in the community, he said and that ‘development has been reduced to zero.’ Knowledge is a continuing process but wisdom is calculative assessment that helps one perform well, the gathering was done. He called upon the educated youths to engage in productive activities and to contribute to the society.

In the valedictory session, YM Jami, conservator of Forest, was the guest for the evening session. He talked about the present generation living in a society that’s ‘struggling for existence’ in a place where ‘survival of the fittest’ is the norm they are facing. He remarked that the number of job seekers was higher comparing to those from the past decades.

The Forest officer urged the educated youths to use their potential, channel their energy in the right channel and right direction and to be innovative. A new team of leaders for the union was instated during the event. Pipen Jungio is the new president of the LMRSU for 2019-2021.
