Dimapur, July 13 (EMN): The Naga Council Dimapur President, Bangarloba Ao exhorted the GB’s union of Dimapur to dedicate themselves to the service of the people. The NCD president was peaking as a guest at the annual general meeting programme of the ‘GB’s Union Dimapur’ held at Lotha Hoho Ki on July 13.

The Naga Council President, Bangerloba Ao stated that one has to accept the job only after one’s dedication to serve the people selflessly and that that they should carry out their duties after appointment with the same dedication one had committed before coronation.

“Even if I don’t eat I will give it to others. I will fight for my neighbours, villagers, and public. One needs to have commitment, dedication, and time,” stated Ao while adding that there should be no compromise and excuses for the Gaon Buras.

The president has called on the elders to cooperate among themselves and work hand in hand for the welfare of the people. Also he urged the GB union to coordinate with different organisations, also among the colonies, villages, districts etc. and work together for the upliftment of the people.

Earlier, the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Wiridin Zeliang, who attended the programme in lieu of ADC, Dimapur spoke about the duties, functions, and powers of the Gaon Bura. Zeliang stated that a GB is a village elder whose duty is to protect the village and look after the welfare of the people. A GB also acts as a mediator between the government and the village folks, the EAC asserted.

According to the EAC, the GB can play an important role for overall development of the villages, towns, and cities since they are the ones who know the place and its people well. They should check whether a place is free from drainage, flood, and criminal activities among others, also including keeping an eye on illegal immigrants, communalism, and ensure for the peaceful co-existence.

Mentioning that a GB is appointed by the government and that they form a part in government set up, the EAC urged the GB to keep away from engaging in politics actively and that they should also refrain from any forms of agitation.

“You shouldn’t be too involved in politics because when you do so you may forget your roles and duties as a GB,” Zeliang stated.

Short speeches were also delivered by NGBF president Shalim Konyak and the DUUCF president Tsethungo Lotha.
