Dimapur, July 13 (EMN): Dimapur District GBs’ Association (DDGBA) has blamed the PWD (Roads & Bridges) for the collapse of the bridge over the Chathe River at 4th Mile connecting Dimapur (National Highway 29) with Niuland ADC sub-division on July 11 claiming 4 lives.
The Association release said that normal life of 116 villages have been badly affected following the bridge collapse.
The Association, in an emergency meeting held on July 12, demanded the minister in-charge of PWD (R&B) to step down on moral ground and to immediately suspend the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Dimapur Division. The Association has demanded the department to furnish white paper on the release of payment for construction of the new bridge. It also demanded compensation to the kin of all those killed in the incident and to those injured and the vehicles damaged. The Association resolved to resort to agitation if its demands are not met by the end of this month.
The Association official also visited the site of collapsed bridge after the meeting. The Association has also apprised the PWD (R&B) of two bridges on Balijan River – one between Hoito and Suhoi villages on Kuhuboto road and the other between New Showuba and Vihokhu village on Niuland road which are on the verge of being washed away.
The Association has voiced serious concern on the plight of Yeveto and Hakhizhe villagers, who have been affected by the flooding waters of Zubza river. The Association has urged the government and the concerned department to take stock of the situation and help the villagers.
