Southern Angamis today commenced the five-day long economic-blockade against the Mao community for the alleged false claimant over the ancestral land of Kezoltsa and Dzükou.
The economic blockade is being enforced by Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) volunteers under the aegis of Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) at Kigwema and Kezo-Kidi junction—these roads connect to Mao areas.
The first day has been peaceful on both the routes, SAYO officials said.
Talking to this correspondent, SAYO president Kekhruhol Mekro said that since SAPO through a meeting held on Wednesday had entrusted SAYO for necessary steps, “Our volunteers would be implementing the blockade for five days as part of the first phase of the agitation”.The volunteers would be maintaining round-the-clock restrictions on two junctions against the movement of any goods coming and heading towards Mao area.
Other commercial vehicles, including passenger or goods carriers which are not meant for or plying from Mao Gate are being given free passage, he said.
Maintaining that though movement of people from Mao community is not restricted, SAYO action committee convener Khisanol Viswentso said that the volunteers are also checking all passenger vehicles so that no one from the Mao community are able to take along ‘economic goods.’
SAYO also reiterated that if the matter continues unresolved till June 2, the second phase in the form of total blockade against the Mao community would be enforced within no time.
