Dimapur, April 26 (EMN): The last eight teams in the pre-quarters round clashed head-on today and as usual, the teams have gained momentum rather quickly for a knockout tournament where very few options are available for players to hone themselves and adapt to the field conditions.
Among the last eight of the present round, Starlit Maova and Sporting Club, Phaipijang played the first match of the day. Both teams made a number of unsuccessful attempts apart from the edge created by Sporting Club, Phaipijang, who sailed through to the quarter finals from a narrow margin of 2-1. The second match had United FC, Medziphema, and Khanglai FC, on the field and amid all the toil and sweat, Khanglai FC ousted their opponent with a satisfactory 2-0 win.
By afternoon, with the sun at its peak, Khanakhurü Students Union and Liengai FC went into one of the toughest game thus far with both sides kicking in but failed to materialise on supplies. As play came to a close, Khanakhurü Students’ Union had to be contended with a marginal score of 1-0. The last match of the day showcased some fine soccer between Molvom Youth and Students Union vs Tribal FC where spectacular discipline combined with talent had both teams locked at 1-1 till regulation time. In the succeeding tie-break, Molvom Youth and Students’ Union cleared the goal line 6-5 and booked its berth for the quarter final which will begin on Thursday.
