KOHIMA, MAY 29: As part of bio-diversity conservation effort within the Chakhesang jurisdiction in Phek district, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) undertook 2nd phase area wise co-ordination meeting cum awareness campaign in different parts of the district.
The 2nd phase campaign from May 23 to 25 covered Pfutsero town, Chokriba, Chozuba town, Khuza town and Phek town. While conducting thorough checking against the defaulters on biodiversity conservation guidelines for three days, CYF found one hunting violator identified as Velakho Nienu of Metsale village and pork supply defaulter identified as Zachito Venyo of Thevopisu village, a resident of Bethany I colony, Phek town.
CYF maintained that the low level of defaulters have shown an impact and effective implementation of conservation guidelines and thanked everyone for their active involvement.
CYF further urged upon all the federating units to put up conservation guidelines signboard in their respective areas. It also asked all federating units to ensure every youth in their respective area to plant a tree each on or before June 5 to commemorate World Environment Day.
CYF also asked the concerned authority not to issue arms permit to anyone for the purpose of shooting any wild animal without consultation with concerned youth as per Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) resolution. CYF also appealed to the neighboring villages of other tribes to control their cattle as free movement of their cattle have destroyed the forest resources in Chakhesang areas.
This is to ensure avoidance of any untoward incident or misunderstanding, said CYF president Welete Kapfo. He stated that CYF would not tolerate on extraction of medicinal plants from Chakhesang jurisdiction by neighboring villages and asked them to desist from practicing such activity.
CYF also expressed dismay on getting complaints from several federating units that some intellectuals/ bureaucrats were indulging in ‘hunting party’ in the restricted and reserved areas thereby hampering the conservation effort. In this connection, it requested those group(s) to discontinue such practice to help enhance the conservation effort.
Meanwhile, CYF thanked Tizu area youth especially Chepoketa village youth for the hospitality during their trip to Tizu area.
