Cyclone Mora: Flood sweeps away 4 villagers at Meluri

Dimapur, May 31 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has informed that incessant rainfall and heavy wind condition, in the wake of Cyclone Mora, “has caused severe damages in the state resulting even in loss of lives”.
The emergency response agency issued an update on Wednesday. “As per report received from the DDMA (District Disaster Management Authority), on May 30 at around 12.30 am to 1 am, a sudden flash flood occurred caused by heavy rain. Paddy fields belonging to Meluri village and Jessami village (Manipur) were washed away along with 4 (four) persons reportedly missing and 1 (one) person injured. “Search and rescue (operation) for retrieving the body of the missing persons has already started along the stretch of the river jointly organised by the district administration, personnel of 22 AR, 111 BSF personnel stationed at Akash Bridge, state disaster response force and (members of) public from Meluri, Jessami and all neighbouring villages. Two bridges in Phonkuri village under Meluri sub- division has also been washed away”, it informed.
Also, in Mokokchung district ‘heavy winds have caused damages to public utility services’, it informed.
