Curfew still on at Phek

No untoward incidents reported on Wednesday

Kohima, Jan. 18: The situation in Phek town was brought back to normalcy today as no untoward incidents were reported on Wednesday.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, the deputy commissioner of Phek said section 144 CrPc will continue to be imposed until such time the situation gets calm and peaceful for public movement.
He informed that heavy patrolling was carried out by the IRB personnel even today. To this, he however added that the situation in the entire stretch of the town was under control.
With the imposition of the 144 CrPc yesterday, the assembly of five or more persons in the street and public places was strictly restricted. Likewise, there was no movement of CYO volunteers in the streets of Phek town today, it was informed.
Meanwhile, the DC also informed about the meeting of the Chakhesang Public Organisation and the Chakhesang Youth Front which was reportedly held in Kohima.
The DC also informed that parliamentary secretary for Planning and Coordination, Neiba Kronu, on behalf of all the Phek legislators, arrived in Phek town today at 12 noon to oversee the situation.On his arrival, Kronu met the officials of the district administration and police and discussed aboutthe situation. He also met a section of public leaders, including GBs and youth, and urged them to assist and cooperate with the government officials to bring the situation back to normalcy.
Replying to a query, the DC informed that he will assess the situation tomorrow and see to it whether section 144 CrPc can be lifted on Thursday. “If the situation remains be peaceful and calm as it was today, it is likely that the imposition of 144 CrPc would be lifted tomorrow,” he added.

Jalukie Town Council
The controversy surrounding the identity of two candidates who have filed their nomination papers under Jalukie Town Council has been cleared and clarified.
The issue was brought to attention when some social media groups carried wide circulation of two candidates in Jalukie town Council, accusing them to be non-Nagas. It was also reported in one of the vernacular papers on Wednesday.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, the Returning Officer of Jalukie Town Council clarified that the allegations were false and have no merit.
As circulated in social media, it was alleged that Hallamson, an NPF candidate for ward 1 under Jalukie Town Council, is the son of one Parimol Bengali. However, it has been clarified by the Returning Officer that Hallamson is the son of Keyilungbe.
As for ward 3, it was also alleged that Ahaule Lungalang, a female candidate from NPF party, is married to one Dr Rehman.
Basing on the nomination paper submitted by the candidate, the Returning Officer clarified that Ahaule is the daughter of Lt. Ipetlung Lungalang. It was found out that nothing about her husband was mentioned in the nomination form.
“As far as the document submitted by her is concerned, everything is okay,” the RO said.
