CrPC 144 promulgated in Kiphire

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure that prohibits unlawful assembly has been promulgated in Kiphire following destruction of properties by certain group of people after a couple was killed in Shamator sub-division by unidentified persons on Saturday evening. Reports said that as measures to calm the volatile situation the district administration has clamped CrPC 144 in Kiphire since Sunday.
A coupled was killed in Shamator sub-division under Tuensang district on Saturday evening by unidentified people. Reports said that the incident occurred at about 6 pm on Saturday at a place between Wapher and Sekiur, National Highway 202, some 45 kilometers away from Kiphire.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been identified as Alemba (husband) from Yangzitong village and his wife Naro from Shamator village. They were shot dead by miscreants while returning from Shamator. Their dead bodies were recovered by police on Sunday morning.
Strongly condemning the incident, Home minister Y Patton said that violence can never be the means to bring peace and solution. “By committing such heinous crimes at a time when the entire Naga people are yearning for peace and unity is not sending a good message to the others,” Y Patton said in a statement.
He then said the state government has been continuously working to see that peace tranquility should not be disturbed in Tuensang district. He also said that they have been holding series of meeting with the representatives of various tribal bodies to see that peace and tranquility prevail in the region. “It is very unfortunate that such heinous crimes have been committed against the innocent villagers including the woman, and it should be condemned by one and all,” the statement added.
The Home minister then said the police have been directed to nab the culprits responsible for the crime. “It is the strong commitment of the state government that, under any circumstances, it will leave no stone unturned to see that peace and tranquility are not disturbed in the region,” the statement added.
Also condemning the killing of the couple, Parliamentary secretary for Municipal Affairs and Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba said he was extremely shocked to learn that Alemba, a teacher, and his wife Naro, a nurse, residents of Kiphire, were mercilessly gunned down while they were on their way to Kiphire.
“Such kind of barbaric and cold blood murder of two innocent travelers is beyond human imagination and those responsible for the heinous crime have no place in the civilized society. Every right thinking citizen should voice out their indignation on such senseless killings”,
Tohanba said. He urged the law enforcing agency to take every possible measure to ensure that the culprits are brought to book and punished as per law.
Tohanba also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed the Almighty to give them strength to bear the tragic loss.
Tikhir Tribal Council
Also condemning the incident, the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) appealed to government for action against those people involved in the Saturday killing of the couple.
TTC then warned that it will not remain a mere spectator but initiate its own course of action deem fit in the event of government inaction in arresting the killers or those responsible as the earliest.
The Tikhir Tribal Council then expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
Yimchunger Organizations
The Yimchunger Akheru Arihako (YAA), Yimchunger Woman Organization(YWO) and Western Yimchunger Hoho (WYH) strongly condemned the killing of the couple by unidentified people on Saturday. These Yimchunger organizations in an emergency meeting held on Sunday resolved to “strongly condemn in the strongest terms” on the brutal murder of Alemba and his wife Naro of Yanzitong and Shamator villages by unknown miscreants at Muru Ke bridge under Shamator sub-division, Tuensang district. The joint meeting also strongly condemned the incident as ‘unfortunate and needless bloodshed’ and also resolved that they will no more longer ‘leave no stone unturned to get the bottom for the truth and facts’.
Tikhir Woman
Association
Tikhir Woman Association (TWA), the apex woman organization of Tikhir tribe, strongly condemned the murder of Alemba and his wife Naro. The association expressed utter shock on this barbaric act of the miscreants. The association then asked the law enforcing agencies to immediately investigate and book those responsible for the killing.
Meanwhile, TWA expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed to almighty God for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
