The district administration continued clamping CrPC 144 in Kiphire town on Monday though there was a marked improvement of situation a day after the mob violence. Sources said that no untoward incidents were witnessed on Monday inspite of the uneasy calm that was prevailed in the town.

Nagaland Baptist Church Council
Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has expressed deep concern over the worsening situation in Kiphire and Shamator following the brutal killing of a man and his wife on the road between the two towns on February 6.
“The cold-blooded killing was most foul and the Church shares the public’s outrage that the four children have so suddenly lost their parents forcing them to face the future un-prepared. In addition the killer’s obvious disregard for the possible dangerous consequences of their provocative crime is deeply disturbing in the given situation of long standing unresolved conflicts,” a statement issued by NBCC today said and added, countless families across Nagaland and beyond are carrying the four children in their thoughts and prayers that God will preserve their hearts and minds and the shock and grief they have sustained may not damaged them.
“NBCC with the church leaders of the tribes involved is doing all the church can do, paying the closest attention to the crisis fully conscious and the sensitive relationships that Kiphire people also content with at all times,” the statement said.
The church appealed to all communities to realize that “whatever our difference maybe, all of us are on the same boat and if the boat goes down all of us go down with it.” NBCC called upon all to think and carry the task together so that difficulties make all better human beings. NBCC also called upon the state government and its district authorities to act speedily with firmness and fairness in a manner expected of them. “Vicious deeds of some must not lead to generalize prejudice and demonization of their entire tribes or communities. Nothing is more dangerous for the Nagas at this time.”

The elected leaders are aware of the situation and it is the responsibility of the government of the day to maintain public order according to the constitutional provisions. However, the government has been sleeping over the problems of the area for too long. Killing of student and entrepreneurs have taken place in Dimapur in broad daylight too. We do not like the application of Art. 356 but if the state cannot provide safety and security to the people, they should give up voluntarily to enable the people to elect a government that may provide safety and security.”

Meanwhile, the federation has conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family members.
