MP Rajya Sabha and Secretary General of Naga People’s Front (NPF), KG Kenye today urged party leaders to stand firm on their political principles and loyalty saying crisis within the NPF legislators has unfortunately become a regular feature due to questionable loyalties, dedication and moralities of the party legislators.

Addressing the Central Office Bearers of the NPF here at Central headquarters, Kenye lauded the party leaders for reposing their loyalty and support to the party leadership and party Constitution in the face of unreliable legislators who shift their loyalties and allegiance at the snap of a finger.

He reminded party leaders and workers that they are the guardians of the party constitution and that it is the party men and women who decide the electoral fate their representatives, and that no MLA of the party should play with their sentiments, political ideologies or their party’s constitution.

He also impressed upon the Central Office Bearers that NPF is the only political organisation which is spread all over the Naga-inhabited areas including Myanmar and that one of the top-most priority of the NPF party is to integrate all Naga-inhabited areas politically if not territorially.

He said NPF party is the only potential platform for future Naga generations to take all the Naga people to sail together. He also did not rule out that realising the fact that NPF is the only legitimate organisation to bring all Naga people together, the “some agencies” might try their best to stop its (NPF’s) growth process and that the present crisis could also have been remote-controlled by such forces using some of our own Naga leaders to destabilise the party.

Encouraging the party leaders, the Secretary General believed that it is a time for the party leaders to be prepared to shoulder whatever responsibilities they need to take on at this crucial juncture. “Not many leaders may get a chance to participate at this transition”, he said and asked, “it is a time to test whether we are true principled-leaders of the party or leaders following some individuals.”

The Secretary General also questioned rebel NPF legislators who are mostly expelled or suspended how can they could appoint MP Neiphiu Rio as their interim president from a Government building State Banquet Hall, adding that they had forgotten the provisions and contents of the NPF constitution.

On the NPF Chief Whip issue, the Secretary General stated that the NPF believed and bears allegiance in the Constitution of India, the party has full confidence that the Indian judiciary shall deliver justice.

Working President of NPF, Huskha Yepthomi who also spoke on the occasion, termed the present crisis as “history repeating itself” and that the similar crisis happened way back in 2004 and 2015 when majority of the legislators revolted to take over the government by force.

However, he said on both the occasion the party and its constitution came to the rescue of the government.

Reminding former Chief Minister and MP, Neiphiu Rio and present Chief Minister TR Zeliang, Huskha said that they should be thankful to party and its President, Dr. Shurhozelie as on both occasions their governments were saved by him.

The meeting of the Central Office Bearers, though called at a very short notice, was attended by almost two-third of the members this evening whereas, as per constitutional provisions of the NPF party and as recognised by the ECI, only one-third of COBs present and voting would suffice and legalise the decisions adopted this evening.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Lepshi Ao, Vice President, invocation prayer was said by Akho Leyri, General Secretary while welcome address was delivered by Achumbemo Kikon, Spokesperson and vote of thanks was pronounced by S Shingnyu Khiam, Vice President.
