DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 6 : Comparative records of statistics of crime in Nagaland during the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 (till June 30) under IPC provided by the police headquarters show that Longleng ranks the least with just 23 cases during stated years.

Strangely, report for the year 2015 shows a wide differences in figures leaving aside Dimapur and Kohima, the number of crime has come down suspiciously from 458 (2014) to just 47 (2015) crimes in nine districts. For the year 2016 (till 30 June), 147 cases were registered in nine districts.
Comparative statement show that in 2014 and 2015–when Dimapur and Kohima witnessed increased number of crime–those in other districts decreased considerably from double-digit to single numbers: Mokokchung from 68 cases to four cases; Tuensang from 48 cases to just two; Wokha, which ranked third-most crime-happening district in 2014 came down from 91 registered crimes to just seven.

Likewise, crime in Phek was 79 in 2014. It came down to 11 cases in 2015; Mon from 44 cases to just nine; Zunheboto from 80 cases came down to five cases during stated years. Kiphire had 14 cases (2014) but went down to three (2015); Peren had 19 cases but got down to just five while Longleng surpassed all districts with a recorded statement of just one crime in the year 2015 with 15 cases in the year 2014.

The comparisons also show that during the three years Dimapur had the highest number of crimes with 516 cases while in 2014, Kiphire ranked at the bottom with just 14 crimes. The report shows, Longleng had the least with one registered crime in 12 months during 2015. In 2016 till June 30, Longleng registered seven crime cases perhaps making it the ‘safest place’ in Nagaland to live in.

The superintendent of Longleng police, Raguramarajan A told this news-desk during a telephonic conversation with Eastern Mirror that ‘effective policing with regular patrolling and strong liaison among the public leaders, and administration kept the district away from crime.’

Also, the district is inhabited mostly by one tribe and hence the probability of minimal inter-tribal issues. It could be an added advantage to live there in peace.

The police officer also mentioned that petty issues are settled the traditional way ‘without causing commotions.’

As published earlier in Eastern Mirror, Dimapur is the most crime-happening district in the state. The crimes committed in Dimapur are more than the compiled crime report of the other 10 districts every year.
