Dimapur, May 21: Secrecy continues to surround the investigation into the sensational claim made by arrested contract killer, Vijay Farmana that he was paid to assassinate a Nagaland politician after the Lok Sabha elections.

On Tuesday, social media platforms were rife with speculations, and information that officials were reluctant to confirm publicly—especially the one that claimed the ‘contract’ had no connection to Nagaland.

On twitter, the Advisor to IT, Science and Technology, NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon posted: “There is confirmation from a top cop of Nagaland that the sensational ‘supari’ has no Nagaland connection! The investigation seems to have revealed something else!”

When contacted, Kikon told Eastern Mirror that his tweet was based on a Facebook update by the Additional Director General of Police (Border), Rupin Sharma. Kikon said that the news has gone viral, especially in Arunachal Pradesh.

After Tuesday’s brutal incident in Tirap, Arunachal Pradesh, there were demands to the name politician who had paid the hitman, he said.

Sharma, in his Facebook post, wrote: “Just to allay fears and put everyone at ease, the recent report of ‘supari’ or ‘contract killing’ for Nagaland politician HAS NO NAGALAND CONNECTION. It is an ongoing investigation but Nagaland connection is ruled out as of now.”

However, the Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, T John Longkumer told Eastern Mirror that the news was mere speculation. ““We are yet to get an update. The news is just speculation. Anybody can speculate whether it has to do anything with Nagaland or any other state.”

He said that ‘investigation is still on.’ Longkumer said that the department would share information only after the Nagaland officers/investigators in Delhi send a written report.

Meanwhile, IGP Sandeep M Tamgadge, who is leading the Nagaland police team sent to probe the matter in Delhi, said that he would be submitting the report to the Nagaland government soon. Prior to that, he declined to offer any update.
