Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): The Nagaland unit of the Indian National Congress has assured that it would “scrap” the Citizenship Amendment Bill if the party is given the opportunity to form the government, an assurance with which the party offered a condition: ‘Throw out’ the grand old party if it fails to deliver the goods as promised.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) issued a press release, appended by its President K Therie, to the media on Saturday.
“Given opportunity at the Centre, Congress assures to scrap CAB. We shall defend our faith at all costs,” the NPCC stated.
The party also assured to ‘deliver solution.’

“We also assure we shall deliver solution. Indian National Congress and the founding fathers of Nagaland Congress have delivered political solution in the past and therefore, we are enjoying the fruits of statehood and are protected under Art. 371(A).”
“Give us another chance to deliver and if we do not, throw us out.

According to the Congress, “we are experiencing AGP’s (Assam-based party Asom Gana Parishad) flip-flop stand which has brought mistrust and shame before the nation. They have withdrawn from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and Neda (North East Democratic Alliance) alliances protesting against CAB.’

“Two days ago they have again sealed alliance in sharing seats after Amit Shah declared to pass CAB if given opportunity to rule again on 17/2/2017 at Guwahati. This has given the nation a wrong impression of the NE and we must not repeat this in Nagaland,” the NPCC stated.

“We must defeat this idea of Amit Shah which is detrimental not only to the interests of Nagaland, but the entire NE.”
The NPCC also had a word to the electorate concerning its candidate for the Lok Sabha seat for Nagaland: “Congress once again appeals to all likeminded political parties, societies and organisations to support Shri. KL Chishi, former CM, as INC candidate for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha election.”

The Congress said to have appealed earlier too to likeminded political parties for their support of the Congress candidate “in view of our common belief in the ideas of secularism, opposition to CAB and of early political solution.”
The party hoped that they will continue to stand by the political objectives ‘which they have made before the people of Nagaland and the nation.’

The organisation has chosen KL Chishi as the party’s candidate after wide consultations to ‘accommodate the views of likeminded parties, societies and groups,’ the press release stated.
‘We understand with their support, we would be much stronger. He is a matured, seasoned and tested statesman.’
