Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): Harping on the principles of secularism, socialism and democracy of the Congress party, president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie said that Congress is the only alternative to defend the faith of other minor communities. He also cautioned that if India fails to sustain secularism, India would disintegrate to fractions.
Addressing the Pre-Christmas celebration organised by the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCCI), on December 18, Therie has assured to implement its manifesto in letter and spirit with the given opportunity.
Therie has lashed out at the present situation where corruption, intolerance and hate have come to dominate the political scenario in the State. Terming the induction of Rahul Gandhi as the president of the Indian National Congress (INC) ‘God-sent,’ Therie said there is new hope for people believing in secularism. He said Rahul has risen above volatile personal attacks, which has made him strong and fearless. He was confident that Rahul Gandhi would not allow politics of fear but would provide politics of comfort.
“Religious social divide, hate and crime against women, economic depression, failure to check corruption in Nagaland and elsewhere are exemplary of BJP government’s achievements in three and half years,” Therie alleged.
Stating that although all the 60 members are on the ruling bench, Therie stated they have no peace and happiness as they are divided and aiming at each other. He has particularly deplored the activities of Ram Madhav, BJP general secretary, who has come to control the activities of the present government.
He has accused BJP of destroying the churches, force reconvert the Christians and Muslims in the name of ghar-wapsi. He went to the extent of accusing the BJP of stopping foreign contributions to mission schools, hospitals and other charity works.
Therie affirmed that Congress party would not allow them to discriminate Christians and other minor communities. On the contrary, he said Congress would continue spreading the message of peace and happiness on earth.
Quoting Election Commission of India (ECI), Therie said the former was likely to announce conduct of election in the State before Christmas and complete the process before February 25, 2018. He added that there would be a new assembly by March 13, 2018 as per the Constitution.
In this regard, Therie has urged the party workers reaching out to every house with the message of providing God-fearing clean government that is for the welfare of people. “Our Manifesto which would be our commitment to the people must reach each house, each educated person and explain the points that are targeted to serve them,” Therie said.
As the people celebrate Christmas, he has appealed renewing the faith, belief and trust in the Almighty God. He further prayed that the joy of the Saviour’s birth usher peace into the hearts and homes.
