Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): The Special Olympic Bharat, Nagaland: Khelo India 2018, in collaboration with local NGO, People in Need Foundation of Jalukie conducted a community coaching for assisting persons with disability, on March 16 at the Local Baptist Church conference hall in Jalukie town. A press release from organisers updated about the event.
The Special Olympic team led by Coach Atiba Sanglir presented its activities and achievements. The team explained various components of the special Olympic games and its competitive spirit to bring the best out of the differently able persons.
The importance of the community coaches were also emphasised to achieve realization of the differently able persons’ talents.
Thirty six coaches were said to have participated in the in the training programme.
Speaking on disabilities, the chairman of People in Need Foundation, Joe Ngamkhuchung, said ‘though no one expects or wants to have a child with disabilities, in God’s plan of things, certain children are born with disabilities.’ God has plans for such persons, he added.
Chairman opined that ‘we need to accept and show the presence of differently able persons for them to avail the opportunities provided by the government to find the grace behind their disabilities.’
God compensates disabilities with rich talents, which only opportunities like special Olympic games can bring out, he said.
The chairman said once a child is born with disabilities we can only help improve the condition of the person. But we could take basic preventive steps to avoid any disabilities.
He said that care of a mother during pregnancy is important to prevent disability in the child. Often in our rural society, he said womenfolk work, without any rest, till the time of the child’s birth. Heavy work during pregnancy does not enjoy sufficient nutrition in the family, he added.
Certain habits of the woman like smoking, drinking or random self medication could jeopardize the health of the child in the womb. More awareness could prevent un-necessary disability in the children, he said.
Disability in the adult also takes place due to risk activities, or through accidents.
Awareness and precaution can greatly reduce risks for disabilities.
The Special Olympic team distributed T-shirts and Special Olympic Bharat Master Trainer handbook to all the participants.
