Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has criticized the minister for Roads & Bridges and his department for the deplorable condition of roads in Nagaland–arguably the most dilapidated public provision in the state for years. The CNTC issued a press release on Sunday.
The CNTC expressed deep concern at the present deplorable conditions of roads across the state. It has demanded that the minister in-charge ‘wake up from his slumber and own full responsibility for the pathetic condition of the roads’ which, the CNTC stated, are worsening each day.
The CNTC expressed full support to the demand of the Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) demanding repairs ‘immediately.’
“Never has the state come under such appalling and awful conditions of the roads as now and the R&B minister instead of shifting the blame on his engineers or contractors he should owe up the full responsibility as the portfolios lies under his charge,” the CNTC declared.
“It is his duty to ensure that every works are carried out properly and sincerely with good workmanship and quality works. Most of the roads are now in fully depilated conditions with water-logging, huge potholes and crater like holes everywhere around the state.”
Yet, even with the worsening conditions everyday “there seems to be no tangible effort or any responsible action with any serious concern shown by the department and the R&B minister,” the organisation stated.
“Commuters of every kind are facing a lot of hardships where lives are being endangered and some have lost their lives. There is not a single person who is not dismayed by the road conditions,” the CNTC stated.
‘The R&B minister together with his department should be embarrassed by the pathetic road conditions and the department instead of giving justifications with feeble excuses like no funds time and again in the media but should pull up its socks and roll up its sleeves and start working giving good quality roads to the people.’
Further, the CNTC stated that ‘it was known very well that adequate funds have been sanctioned by the central government.’
The organisation has demanded that the R&B minister and his department show accountability and “prove its worth by properly repairing and maintaining whatever remains of the so-called roads now.”
