Mokokchung, April 6 (EMN): Asserting that Naga problem is a political and human problem that requires political and human approaches, State chief minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu urges unity among the Naga society for its solution.

Speaking at the civic reception hosted by the villagers of Ungma at Babu Tsubu Amphitheatre on Thursday, Dr. Shurhozelie expressed contentment that the present government in Delhi has taken bold step to solve the prolong Naga political problem.

He reminded that Naga movement was started as one body when Naga brothers participated in WW I as Labour Corps which created the political awareness among the Naga people and realised the sense of oneness and belongingness among the various Naga section.

He, however, lamented that Nagas underground today are fragmented into many fractions, while even the over ground are divided on political lines whereas the Government of India is trying to solve the oldest “Naga problems.”

In this regard, he called upon the people for oneness among the Nagas saying shouting for unity in the crowd will not bring unity but should start beginning at home, within the clan, village and different tribes of Nagaland.

“Yes there may be differences in principle leading to harsh arguments but such differences should not lead to fight against each other. From now on, we have to start a movement to bring unity among the Nagas to achieve the ultimate goal of bringing a solution to the protracted Naga political problem,” Dr. Shurhozelie said.

He further called upon the people of Nagaland to think very seriously to start a movement to bring unity among the Nagas to solve this problem and to prevent the future generation to inherit this problem. “We will not have peace of mind even in our grave if we allowed our children to inherit this problem,” the chief minister states.

Parliamentary Secretary of IPR, Imtikumzuk delivered the welcome speech on behalf of the Ungma Villagers, while short speeches were delivered by Minister Imkong L Imchen, Advisors to CM Huska Yepthomi and Apong Pongen.

CM seeks cooperation for quality education

Chief minister, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu advocated cooperation between the administration, village council and educational institutions to bring about quality education, adding when these three come together ‘we can expect good fruits.’

The chief minister was speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration of science cum administration building at Senayangba Government Higher Secondary School (SGHSS) in Ungma village on April 6.

Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu said the special committee, which was set up to study the proposal for the bifurcation of high school and secondary, has submitted their recommendations adding the cabinet is thoroughly studying the recommendations.

He said the “committee was not in favour of bifurcation but they have proposed for promotions and other adjustments to accommodate both sides.”

“Cabinet is thoroughly studying the recommendations suggested by the committee to take the right decision regarding the matter,” Dr. Liezietsu stated while he rued on the lack of co-ordination between higher and lower section in many schools which, according to him, is a setback for the education of the students in the State.

Dr. Liezietsu also maintained that with the increase of science students and demands to open science streams, the government has introduced science in secondary and college levels in order to facilitate the students. However, he lamented on the poor enrolled of students in many science institutions whereas the admission in reputed institutions like Kohima Science College is always in a big rush.

In this regard, he appealed the people to take the opportunities when such facilities are made available at their doorstep and to encourage their children to pursue studies in those institutions rather than sending them to other parts for education with a huge burden on their side.

He further said absence of strong co-ordination between the Principal and Headmaster in higher secondary schools would badly disturb the whole system. In this regard, the chief minister insisted more study to find an amicable solution.

Short speeches were delivered by Advisor of Urban Development Department, SI Jamir; ADC Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal’ Chairman of Ungma Village Council, Alemtoshi Imsong; and President AKM, Imkongwati. Invocation was said by Rev. Dr. Noklen, Pastor UBC, while DEO Mokokchung, I Temjennaro proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by the Principal SGHSS, Lakhi Longkumer.
