CM, Speaker, Rio condole Tokheho Sema demise

Dimapur, Jan. 12: State chief minister, TR Zeliang, has condoled demise of the former Interim Body Member (IBM) and Padma Shree recipient Tokheho Sema who passed away on January 12.

In a condolence message to Mrs Kitoli Yeptho, chief minister described late Tokheho Sema as an altruistic person whose prior most concern was the welfare of the public and the State in particular. The chief minister said late Tokheho Yeptho was a humble and straightforward person who never hesitated to speak out his mind. He recalled meeting him last year on August 15 alongwith five other Members of the Interim Body in which through his initiatives the Nagaland Assembly had raised the salary of legislators and also the pensions of ex-legislators last year.

The chief minister recalled the immense risks they- the founders of the State- took part of the country when sentiments against it were running very high. While appreciating their supreme sacrifice, he said the benefits are being reaped by the succeeding Naga generations.
On his demise, Zeliang lamented that Nagas have lost one of those few leaders who laid the foundation stone of the State of Nagaland. On behalf of the people of Nagaland and his family, he conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty to grant them solace, strength and comfort at their time of grief. He further prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Chotisuh Sazo, has termed the demise of Tokheho Sema as a great loss to the Naga people in general and Sumi community in particular. Sazo has conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty God to grant solace and comfort in their hour of grief.

Tokheho Sema, son of late Hetoi Serna of Sukhalu village was born on November 19, 1932. He got his education from GHS Kohima and St. Edmunds School, Shillong, He was a Member of Interim Body during 1962-63; governing body of Zunheboto College; SBAK executive member; and chairman of GBs’ Association Zunheboto.

Meanwhile, the lone Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio has condoled the demise of Tokheho Sema, an Interim Body Member (IBM) and member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

According to Rio, late Tokheho served with distinction in every responsibility that was entrusted to him in the service of the people. He described late Tokheho Sema as a person who was always committed to serving the public in the best manner possible. Rio said the significant contributions and sacrifices made by late Tokheho for the cause of the people will always be remembered.

Rio further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul.

Tokheho Serna was elected as member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1969 general elections from Zunheboto constituency. He got re-elected to the Assembly from the same constituency in 1974 as UDF candidate and appointed minister of Supply and PWD. He also got elected from the same constituency as NPC candidate in the 7th general elections in January 1989. He was a prominent social worker till his last days. In recognition of his outstanding contributions for the welfare of the people both in the State and the country, he was awarded Padmashree in April, 2016.
