Kohima, Sep. 25 (EMN): Chief Minister TR Zeliang has been chosen the “chief ambassador” for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Hindi for ‘Save girl child, educate girl child’) campaign.
A press release from the chief minister’s office on Monday informed that he was felicitated by mission director of the State Resource Centre for Women Nagaland, Daisy Mezhur at a ceremony that was conducted at the Secretariat Sep. 25 afternoon.
The ‘ambassador for girl child’ is an initiative of the Nagaland government under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme, a mass campaign launched by the government of India in 2015 to spread awareness about ensuring the survival, protection and education of the girl child.
Mezhur briefed the chief minister about the objectives and mission of the campaign besides the role of the governor’s team, chief minister’s team and the chief secretary’s team. They are to identify beneficiaries to sponsor high school education, higher education and technical education.
The chief minister lauded the State Resource Centre for Women Nagaland for their ‘enthusiastic efforts and assured all assistance towards the noble mission,’ the chief minister’s office stated in the press release.
The press release mentioned that there were three teams for the ambassador for girl child initiative: the governor of Nagaland is the chief patron of the campaign; the chief minister is the chief ambassador of the BBBP with all his ministers while the chief secretary is the brand ambassador along with administrative heads and heads of departments.
