Barak FC blank Ziezou to enter quarters; Kohima Eagles SC, New Market XI advance to last eight
Kohima, Nov. 10 (EMN): Barak FC blanked FC Ziezou 6-0 to advance to the quarters of the ongoing Classic Cup soccer tournament here at the Kohima local ground on Nov. 10.
Playing the second match of the day, the former champions, Barak FC were up against a mediocre side who failed to give them a tough fight.
Barak midfielder Tingyek Konyak drew the first blood for Barak in the 6th minute, while Konyak doubled the lead in the 20th minute.
All out to humiliate their opponents, Barak FC pressed hard which resulted to the third goal through Rhitso Mero in the 30th minute and followed by the fourth in the 36th minute through the touch of Seiboi Haokip.
Rhitso scored his second and the fifth for his team in the 42nd minute, while Hitova went on to score the sixth goal for Barak in the 48th minute to end the match 6-0. With the victory, Barak will next play against Barak in the quarterfinal on Nov. 13.
Earlier in the first match, Kohima Eagles Sporting Club defeated four times semi-finalists Naga Terriers 1-0 to enter the round of last eight. The lone goal of the match was scored by Menguzelie in the 20th minute. Kohima Eagles will next play against Tyrants FC in the round of last eight on Nov. 14.
Playing the last match of the day, New Market XI also survived a scare as they beat Tseidi FC 1-0 to make it through to the quarters.
The first half remained goalless; however, New Market’s centre forward Khwetelhi Thopi delivered in the second half to score the much needed goal for his team, which in the end was enough to take them to the quarters.
In the quarterfinal, New Market will play against the winner of the match between Kezekevi FC and FC Chizami United.
