Citizens undertake road works in Manipur

Imphal, Jan. 21: Sensing the need for a decent district road condition, concerned citizens are filling several potholes within the town of Tamenglong Bazaar from Jadonang Bazar to Utopia Junction for the last three days in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, reports reaching here said.
Some local individuals have initiated the move to bring relief to both the passing vehicles and the pedestrians in particular. The moved of the local initiative attracted many people to join the work with their shovels and spades.
These unsung heroes took out their time during the night and day as clanging of their tools could be heard late into the night by those residing nearby the road side. The task consisted mainly of filling up the potholes with stone, chips and other materials to give way to the passersby.
As the news went viral in the social media, a chief medical officer of Assam Rifles Lt. Col. Dr. Gaihaipou Pamei, a resident of Tamenglong who is currently posted in Silchar, supported the initiative.
Earlier there was a similar event in Senapati district village where the villagers came out in groups and conducted the road repair works on their own volition.
