DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 9

THE road condition of National Highway-29 between Zubza and Paglapahar got a healing touch thanks to the combined efforts of BRO and residents of villages along the highway as they undertook a month long maintenance drive along this route from August 4 to the 30th. The efforts were facilitated by 37 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles, a note from the security force stated on Tuesday.
During the maintenance drive, a large number the villagers belonging to all villages along National Highway-29 from Chumukedima to Zubza voluntarily came forward and engaged in filling of potholes, clearance of rainwater drains, cutting of foliage and removal of mud deposits from the road surface. Approximately 40 kilometers long stretch was divided into four parts for maintenance and one week of maintenance work was devoted to each stretch.
The Border Road Organization also provided assistance in terms of tippers, plant equipment and construction material during maintenance drive. It is highly appreciable that the local population mobilized automatically at this scale for such an essential and important public cause. The enthusiasm and co-operation of the locals is testimony of their genuine need for good infrastructure and return of normalcy in the area.
The village councils and youth organizations have appreciated the efforts of the villagers, Border Road Organization and Assam Rifles and have expressed their gratitude for organizing the month long maintenance drive.
