Dimapur, Nov. 25 (EMN): The Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR), commonly known as the ‘Referral Hospital’ celebrated 10 years of its existence on November 25.

Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, who is also the president of CIHSR Society, attended the occasion as the chief guest of the event.

In his address, Kumar said that the CIHSR project was one of the most exciting projects that the Nagaland government had undertaken ‘because of its growth and the way CIHSR contains itself.’

“So much has been achieved in the past 10 years citing the health centre, the college of nursing, the post graduate courses, para medical courses; the CLHTC and the special programs for helping special needs children, a lot has been done and today this institution has earned a reputation for itself for performance,” Kumar said.

The chief secretary said that the institute not only attracts patients from inside the state but from neighbouring areas outside also, which he said was ‘the biggest certificate for any service provider from the clients or consumers.’ When this is achieved, he said, it signifies that quality and affordable care is being provided to the population. “This is what is especially encouraging in the efforts of CIHSR,” he said.

Further, the state official referred to the medical institution’s motto to ‘serve, nurture and transform.’ He said to keep in mind the primary objective of CIHSR which is to be a centre of excellence and a set of important values. He appreciated the centre for keeping the values and making it the “forefront of institutions” which are ‘improving public service in the state.

“There is plenty to learn by government institutions by the experiment of CIHSR but also their partnership with different organisations,” Kumar said.

The chief secretary has complimented CIHSR for not confining to ‘just three or four partners’ but going much beyond. It has even been entrepreneurial in approach: approaching Nagaland University to certify degree courses, taking help from the North Eastern Council for infrastructure; keeping close ties with the Tata Trust for radio therapy and cancer care centre; signing an agreement with the ministry of Development of North East Region to develop a regional institution for allied sciences and accreditation process for laboratories. All these showed the “readiness” of CIHSR to want to help and assist people, the gathering was told.

Speaking at the event was also the first director of CIHSR, Dr. PK John who took the audience down memory lane and narrated a series of incidents that also made CIHSR possible.

Present director of CIHSR, Sedevi Angami, gave the director’s report. He informed that a five-year strategic planning workshop was recently concluded. It has given a more concrete direction forward, he said.
