Dimapur, Feb. 24: In a tragic incident, two and half year old child identified as Reshab Gurung was killed in an accident when the two wheeler (scooty) on which he was travelling with his mother was knocked down by a truck (NL 01 G 0737) at Burma Camp junction Dimapur on Friday.
As per account of Dimapur traffic police Zone 1, the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. The victim, along with his mother identified as Shoba Gurung (35), who is also a private school teacher, were on their way to school when the tragic accident occurred.
The incident happened when the truck was negotiating to take a turn in which the scooty from behind was knocked down thereby crushing the child under its tyre killing him on the spot.
The mother, who received serious injury and lost two fingers at the accident, was rushed to District Hospital for treatment.
The truck driver identified as Maynal Hoque (29) and resident of Dimapur was arrested and the truck seized. Case in this connection has been registered against the truck driver and kept under the custody of traffic police Zone 1.
