Chetheba youth team wins Chetheba open volleyball tournament

Kohima, Oct. 17 (EMN): Host Chetheba Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) emerged as the champions of the first open volleyball tournament for Phek district held at Chetheba town local ground on Wednesday’s evening.

Chetheba youth team proved to be strong as they defeated Runguzu Nasa Village 25-14, 25-23 in the final match to take the title.

Earlier CTYO team beat Mavericks Star Club Chozuba in the semi-final, while Runguzu Nasa Village defeated Khasuho team Thenyizu in the first semi-final.

The champions CTYO received a cash prize of INR 20,000 while the runners-up Runguzu Nasa Village received INR 10,000.

Thejongoi Phesao from Runguzu  Nasa Village was adjusted as the best setter, while Thejota Nakhro from CTYO bagged the best spiker for the individual award

Vetazo Tetseo, president Chokri Area Youth Sports Association (CAYSA) who earlier attended the occasion as the special guest appreciated the effort of the CTYO for organising such a tournament and further emphasised on the participants to take up sports as a profession depending on their interest.  He also reminded that the players should have a target and worked hard to reach that target if they were to succeed in their life.  While advised the players to expert in one field instead of opting for many.

He also suggested that education and sports should go hand in hand and shouldn’t hinder the sporting activities or academic carrier to excel in their career.

A total of 15 teams under Phek district participated in the championship.
