Charity visits mark 71st Independence Day in Kohima and Dimapur

Dimapur, August 15 (EMN): To mark the 71st India Independence Day, various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) visited jail inmates and charity homes, on Tuesday.

KPC: The Kohima Press Club (KPC) on the occasion of the 71st Independence Day on Tuesday visited the District Jail Kohima and donated books, magazines and some essential food items to the inmates.

A brief programme was held with the prison authorities and 78 inmates, wherein, KPC president, Xavier Rutsa highlighted the purpose of the visit. He also encouraged the inmates to take the time of their sentences to reflect on positive aspects of life and to make decisions to live productive lives and contribute to the growth of the society once they are released from custody.

District jailor, Sunny Keppen and one of the inmates also made brief speeches and thanked the Press Club for their benevolent visit. Later, KPC treasurer led the gathering in prayer before the programme concluded.

DPC: On the occasion of 71st Independence Day, The Dimapur Press Club (DPC) on Tuesday visited the Central Jail Dimapur and distributed essential items and refreshments to inmates and jail officials.

A brief interaction was held with the inmates and jail officials, where DPC president, Moa Longkumer highlighted the purpose of the visit and encouraged the jail inmates to retrospect over their prison term, restore their lives constructively and not to make their past lives be a barrier for their future.

DPC former general secretary, Paudi Rentta also heartened the jail inmates to take their stay in the prison as a challenge to transform their lives and lead a positive life.

Green Caravan: As a part of the Independence Day Celebration, the Green Caravan, a market linkage for farmers and small time producers managed by Zynorique Initiatives Society visits Kohima Old Age Home, Meriema.

The old age home has been running by Women Society with six permanent staffs and two volunteers.

The home manages its operation through goodwill donation from patrons and well wishers and sometimes with grants from government.

In a press release, it has informed that at present, the home does not have proper staff accommodation, kitchen and dining area. Recently a well wisher had donated 5 lakh for the construction which will commence after the rainy season, it added.

The Green Caravan had a prayer meeting and provided essential commodities to the society and lauded them for undertaking the noble initiative and taking care for the elderly with such professionalism and care.

BAN: Business Association of Nagas (BAN), led by its president, Thungbemo Murry visited the Nagaland Orphanage Home, Diphupar as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Various items and eatables were distributed to the children.

In a brief programme, BAN members shared words of encouragement and the children presented special numbers.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland Orphanage Home, Diphupar is the first orphanage to be established in Nagaland. The orphanage also has a school attached where children are offered affordable education.

NCSU: The Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) Head Office Kohima led by its president, Pele Khezhie along with 30 members visited Bright Morning Star Home Children at Perizie on the occasion of 71st Indian Independence Day on Tuesday.

The home children home was started by the proprietor Aleno and family since 2012 and presently 17 students are in the Home, along with 4-5 fulltime workers running the home without any financial assistance from the state government.

The visiting said the children were very smart and talented in singing and conversation.

Speaking to the children, NCSU president challenged them to be strong in trusting God and courageous to their goal. He encouraged them stating “even though they lost their parents God is always looking after them through the proprietor of the home. So if you obey, God will provide all your needs”.

NCSU general secretary and executive member, Sapralu also encouraged the children to work hard towards achieving a bright future. The programme was led by Aleno, the proprietor of Bright Morning Star Home.

DCCI: The members of Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) visited Sharon Home for Hope located at Burma Camp and distributed food items, fruits, biscuits and sweets to the children.

The members lauded the owner for the remarkable work and assured to extend help if required in coming days.

Classic club: Classic Club, Kohima visited Spastic Centre o the occasion of 71st Independence Day on August 15 and distributed some eatable items and donated some cash.

Inner Wheel club of Dimapur celebrated Independence Day with the inmates of Central Jail. The team also donated sports and game items like carom board, badminton rackets, volleyball, chess, Chinese chequers etc. and also distributed fruits top inmates and jail staff.

The club members encouraged the inmates to lead a good life after their sentence is over.

Jain community Dimapur celebrated the 71st Independence Day with the inmates of Sub Jail Dimapur, by distributed food items and sweets to the inmates.

IRCS Dimapur: Indian Red Cross Society, Dimapur district branch visited the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) and provided food items for inmates on Tuesday.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj, Dimapur visited Dimapur District Hospital and distributed around 800 plates of khichdi to the patients, attendants, Nurses and staff of the hospital.
