Changki Students’ Union sports underway

Changki, Jan. 9 (EMN): The Changki Kaketshüri Telongjem (Changki Students’ Union) kicked-off its biennial sports meets at Jumaba ground at Changki village under Mokokchung district on Wed. Jan. 9.

The Changki Kaketshüri Telongjem sports meet is been held coinciding with the union’s general conference. The event was officially kicked off by Dr Tiasunep Longchari, State Programme Officer (National TB Control Programme) as the special guest.

Longchari in his speech urged the students to emulate the exemplary life of Dr T Ao, the legendary barefooted footballers from Changki. He added that Dr T Ao was not only a captain of the Indian Football team but a visionary man who dedicated his life for the welfare of the people as a doctor.

He encouraged the students to be active in one of the sports and games in life which would be beneficial to their health and other social aspects.

Asserting that ‘Changki language’ is a heavenly blessed language, he also encouraged the young generation of the Changki to learn and speak Changki. “You are Changki first than comes your clans,” he said.

Speaking on the current state of Changki, he stated that “today Changki is like a vehicle stuck in a swamp struggling backwards and forward to come out of the soaking mud.

He, however, expressed hope that if Changki people ponder upon seriously with patience and steadiness, they can come out of the stagnant mud.

Professor Lanusosang Anichari, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University SASRD, Medziphema Campus also spoke at the event. He exhorted the students that people of Changki spread across four corners should be united as one.

He also opined that if the people of Changki want to bring a change then the change must start from them.

He further encouraged the students to choose their careers accordingly to their interest and passion instead of following and chasing the popular career opted by others.

The four-day Changki Students’ Union General Conference cum sports meet will witness indigenous games, five men soccer, basketball, badminton and intensive workshop on traditional pottery art, traditional attires and ornaments of Changki, hymnal competition as well as core issues to let the people of  Changki forward will be deliberated during the Conference.

More than 400 plus delegates from even units are camped at Changki village to attend the Union’s general conference cum sports meet.
