Dimapur, May 26 : The Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) has ‘temporarily relaxed’ its agitation in demand for redress to issues concerning a number of persons from the community going missing.

The union issued a press release on Thursday stating that the Home minister of the state had ‘intervened thoughtfully’ based on which the agitations were suspended.

However, the union has cautioned that should the state fail in instating a resolution, the confederation would be “at its liberty to uphold and protect its legitimate rights and democratic practices.” The agitation was suspended “on the ensuing thoughtful intervention of the Home Minister, Nagaland, over the grievances…” the press release stated.

Earlier, the local organization had placed a set of demands before the government in April this year.

They had demanded “Immediate declaration on the whereabouts of the missing persons (a) 9th Dec. 2014 missing case of a mother and a daughter (b) 7th April 2015 missing case of Mr. Thongsomong Chang…” besides a memorandum seeking revocation of a government memorandum that stated “Tuensang and Chendang Saddle” as ‘disputed land.’

The organization said to have had “a sitting with the State Home Minister and the state bureaucrats on the surfaced issue” on May 17.

“Having brought the matter into confidence, the confederation resolved to temporarily relax its ongoing phase-wise agitation till the end of June 2016. After which, the confederation will be at its liberty to uphold and protect its legitimate rights and democratic practices,” the organization added.
