Chakhesang Clean Election campaigners and legislators meet

Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): Members of the Chakhesang Clean Election Movement (CCEM) are informed to have conducted a joint meeting with present and former Chakhesang legislators. Updates on Monday informed that the event was part of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council’s Clean Election ‘guidelines’ to bring changes to the political system in Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Kuzhopoyi Tunyi, Convener of CCEM and Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, Executive Secy. of CBCC led the devotion.
The legislators who spoke in the meeting were Neiba Kronu, Deo Nukhu, Chotisuh Sazo and Kuzholuzo Nienu, it was informed.
The president of the Chakhesang Public Organization Kekhwengulo Lea; president of the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association Zaposhelu Venuh; and former CPO president, Yesonu Veyie, also spoke at the meeting, the updates stated.
Former Speaker Zhovehu Lohe and former MLA Chikhutso Rhakho also spoke at the meeting.
According to the updates, Kuzholuzo Neinu appreciated the initiative taken by the CCEM and also requested them to study the Election Code of Conduct too for better results. He says that 100% results may not be possible but will surely be a success and Azo also mentioned that every candidate wants and wish to win very clean but practically it may be difficult. He also shared some of the ground realities faced by the legislators and the candidates.
Also, Deo Nukhu was stated to have suggested that the election Code of Conduct and the guidelines of the CCEM should be compared to be more successful in bringing about some changes. Deo also shared the practical difficulties in following all the guidelines though he appreciated the 18 point guidelines of the CCEM.
Also, Neiba while addressing appealed the crowd to be more practical and put collective efforts as we all agree in principles to bring about changes. He said, ‘Let us not hate each other because criticism can never be the solution.’ He requested the CCEM and CBCC to work with the Naga national groups to have a proper lines and understanding one’s own profession.
Further, Sazo also appreciated the movement and the 18 points guidelines of the CCEM. He requested that false allegations made by the church leaders to the candidates and the legislators should be studied properly. And he also says that buying and selling of votes have already started therefore he requests the CCEM to work out as alleged by the church leaders.
All present and former legislators appreciated the 18 point guidelines and will go by it but they also said some points are practically not possible and therefore request CCEM to modify the guidelines if possible, the press release stated.
Zhovehu Lohe was mentioned as having stated that the integrity, calibre and capability etc., of candidates / legislators have become useless because of the corruption. He said that verifying and examining the electoral roll should be the main priority to have Clean Election. ‘Evils cannot be removed until and unless the electoral roll is cleaned,’ the updates stated.
Chikhutso Rhakho too suggested that electoral roll should be verified and proxy votings should be examined thoroughly to bring changes into our society.
The Chakhesang Public Organization’s President Kekhwengulo Lea also mentioned that the attitude of blaming legislators and the candidates should be stopped. With the start of the CCEM, many have talked about the movement as an impossible movement but he says that CCEM is a possible movement if we all come out together, the updates stated.
The Chakhesang Mothers’ Association’s President Zaposhelii Venuh also spoke at the event, the updates informed. She said that selling or buying (vote) and proxy voting should be eliminated. The leader hoped that the movement will be a ‘blessing’ for the society, according to the update.
Likewise, former CPO President Yesonu Veyie stated that he appreciated the CCEM for having a vision to change the society. He said that leaders should be respected and supported to bring about changes.
“He also says that electoral roll should be cleaned first to have clean and peaceful elections,” the updates added.
