Dimapur, July 12: With the state government’s introduction of city bus services in Dimapur in September last year, commuting between the commercial hub and Chümoukedima has been made cheaper as well as safer.

Seeking similar facility, the Chakhroma GB Union (CGBU) on Friday issued a press release, requesting the Transport department to extend the service to Medziphema as well.

The union appreciated the government’s initiative of introducing city bus service between Chümoukedima and Dimapur. “Travelling in autorickshaws is more expensive and involves higher risks, and as such the introduction of city bus service is seen as a much needed relief to the public,” it stated.

The union further assured to cooperate with the government in its endeavour to serve the people.

When contacted, Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Railways and Land Resources, P Paiwang Konyak told Eastern Mirror that the ‘first important thing before starting the service’ is to see whether the road is suitable. The second thing is the scope for revenue. “The department also have to concentrate on earning revenue,” he maintained.

The minister also suggested the ‘stakeholders to visit or write an application to the minister or the department concerned for such requests.’ The reason, he said, is because the department will not be able to directly respond to press releases.

“If they could have met me, written an application/request, I could have accepted and enclosed it to the department so that the officials could immediately review it,” said Konyak.

“Nagaland State Transport is a social service department. We have to give to maximum services to the people. The minister and the department are always available,” he said.
