On 5th to 8th January 2017, the biggest tech event in the world took place in Las Vegas and with all the top companies coming together to showcase their latest products and concept designs, every single tech nerd went crazy. The great thing about Consumer Electronics Show ( CES ) 2017 is that we get a glimpse of what the technology of tomorrow is going to be like and one thing is for sure, that is the fact that there are a lot of gadgets to look forward to in the coming days. Here are some of the best gadgets which caught a lot of attention during this event.
# Razer Project Valerie
All gamers know the Razer company and they are the only company that creates ultra thin and light gaming laptops which are almost as powerful as their desktop counterparts. And this time they blew everyone’s mind away with their TRIPLE DISPLAY gaming laptop! At first glance, I thought it was similar to the “slide n joy” display which was a hit on kickstarter a few years back but this Razer’s Project Valerie is a whole new animal since the display are embedded into the laptop and with the touch of a button, the 4K displays will slide out automatically to form the triple display. At its core, the system packs an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card which is capable of handling any game you throw at it. Project Valerie is currently at a prototype stage and Razer may release it in a few years but for now, all we can do is ogle at its beauty.# Asus Zenfone AR
Finally! A phone which has both Google Tango and Google Daydream, the Asus Zenfone AR is here to set a new standard for the future of mobile phones. Google Tango has been in development for a few years now and Lenovo also released the Phab 2 Pro last year but it was bulky and buggy and most people treated it more like a concept piece rather than a released product. The Zenfone AR however, is slim and packs a punch. If you are unfamiliar with Google Tango, it is an augmented reality system which has a lot of practical and fun uses. The phones which have this capability will come with an infrared spacial sensor which will map your surroundings and using that information, you can play games which will interact with your surroundings or perhaps help blind people navigate around with just an AR capable phone. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Augmented reality. Besides the Tango features, the Asus Zenfone AR will come with a 23MP Sony sensor camera, a snapdragon 821 processor with 8GB RAM and the entire phone will have Vapor cooling. It will also support Google’s Daydream Headset and controller and will be released on Q2, 2017.
# Liquidsky Cloud Gaming
Cloud gaming is the process where you use an ordinary computer or mobile device which does not have a powerful graphics card and still play the most demanding games on it. The way it works is that all the processing will be done at a server which will be located elsewhere, and much like streaming a video online, the final output will be sent to your device at every frame. So far, the biggest drawback has been the frame drop since it requires a very high speed internet for both the server and the user but Liquidsky has promised to resolve that issue with their proprietary compression algorithm which promises to provide ultra low latency. Currently, Liquidsky systems are in Beta phase and you can sign up to try the system. Once released in March 2017, they will be available in three pricing plans – A free plan which will include advertisements, and a $4.99 and $9.99 per month plans. Now, imagine playing Battlefield 1 on your phone!
# LG Wallpaper TV
These days, televisions have been getting slimmer and slimmer and I am sure that most of you have seen some of those paper thin television online. But this time at CES 2017, LG unveiled their super thin 4K OLED Wallpaper TV which is so darn thin that if you can practically stick it to any wall in your home and it will blend in with the wall much like a poster or, well… a wallpaper! Sure, this is obviously a luxury product, since the 65 inch model is available for pre-order for around Rupees 5.45 Lakh and the 77 inch version will be available later this year. So, the big question is “how thin is this TV?” and the answer is 0.15 inch! That is almost equivalent to stacking up 4 credit cards! And yes, it is flexible. All the inputs, the audio and other functions are handled by a beautiful sound bar which sits at the base of the TV.
