Centre releases 45 crores for development

IMPHAL,April 21(EMN): Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram who was here on a two day visit to the state said that the central government in association with the new government in the state is taking up all out efforts to enhance the livelihood of the people living in hills.
“The Centre has allocated and released more than Rs 45 crores (including Rs 11.18 cores in 2014-15,Rs 12.16 crores for 2015-16 and Rs 22.6 crores for 2016-17) for taking up welfare and development programmes from 2014-15 to 2016-17,” says Minister Jual Oram. “Though I am not in a position to physically inspect all the development programmes this time, I will definitely check during my next visit in May or June this year.”
The Union minister Jual was addressing a press conference prior to his departure in Imphal on Friday. He also informed that a good number of villages in the North East states out of the total 12,000 electrified villages across the country in the last three years.
Similarly Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers have also visited half of the country’s total villages since then for taking development works, he claimed. However the visiting minister was not ready to provide the statistics in case of the NE states.
On his arrival at the newly created hill district of Tengnoupal bordering Myanmar on Thursday, Union Minister Jual also informed about the central government’s initiative for the development of the region.
He said that the earmarked amount would be utilized for construction of market-sheds, infrastructures for sericulture, skill development and hospitals in the hill areas of the state.
While expressing his gratitude to the people of Manipur for giving a chance to BJP to rule the state, he assured that the commitment given by the party during the elections will be fulfilled by the new government.
The party was able to attract confidence of the people because of transparency and accountability governance given by the BJP led NDA government at the Centre in the last three years in power.
The main objective of his visit to the district was to discuss matters related with implementation of various Central sponsored programmes and reaching the same to the people directly.Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Tengnoupal district also submitted a memorandum which includes the demand for a separate DRDA office for newly created district, a special package for the development of the district and Moreh to the visiting minister.
