DHALIGAON, AUGUST 25

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh today said the Centre has given all possible help to the state government to tackle floods in Assam, thereby minimising casualties and damages.
“The Centre is giving all possible help to the state government from the first day of the floods in Assam. Due to immediate and prompt response from the government, the damages and rate of casualties could be minimised,” Singh told reporters here.
“As a result of that, more than 600 people were evacuated to safer places,” he said during his brief halt at Dhaligaon BGR Stadium prior to his visit to the flood affected areas of Bongaigaon district.Stating that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister were keeping a close watch on the flood situation in Assam, he said the Centre was yet to receive the report from the state government on the damages caused by the recent floods for giving extensive assistance.
“The advance release of the Rs 207 crore as the second instalment for the State Disaster Response Force was processed today. In addition to that amount, whatever is required will be given after getting the assessment report of the damages from the state government,” Singh said.
He appealed to all other political parties not to politicise the situation, but work together to try to come out of the calamity and help people instead of blaming each other.
The Union Minister was accompanied by Assam Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Dr Bhumidhar Barman and BJP MP Bijaya Chakraborty.
