Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): Troops of 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles apprehended one drug peddler carrying 356 gms of Heroin and 215 gms of Brown Sugar at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Sita Junction under Tengnoupal police station along the Imphal-Moreh sector of the National Highway 2, according to a press release.
On March 11, at around 1550 hours, based on specific input received from reliable source regarding the smuggling of contraband drugs, a joint team of 12 Assam Rifles and Tengnoupal District Police stopped a silver coloured Maruti Van (MN06 L 7859) travelling from Moreh to Imphal for checking at Mobile Vehicle Check Post, Sita Junction, Tengnoupal, says PRO Assam Rifles (South) in a press release on Monday.
After frisking of the passengers and thorough checking of their baggage, 356 gms of Brown Sugar and 215 gms of Heroin were found hidden inside a rice cooker of one of the passengers, Mayengbam Ongbi Ningthoujam Ningol Tombimacha Devi (66) wife of late M Madhumangol Singh, of Nungoo Wangpokpi, Pangantabi under Kakching police station in Manipur’s Thoubal district. She was apprehended for smuggling of the contraband drugs. Recovered drugs along with the accused were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station, the release added.
