DIMAPUR, JULY 26: A long-awaited water supply facility, a borewell, has been built for this village in Mokokchung district. On July 18, villagers of Aonokpu village saw what they had been hoping for a long time—water supply to ease the shortage of water in the village.
Aonokpu is said to be one of the last villages in the Japukong range in Mokokchung district, and bordering Assam.
The borewell was installed and began functioning on July 18, the village’s local authorities informed on July 25.
The Aonokpu Village Council (AVC) issued a press release informing that the villagers had been suffering from shortage of water.
‘Since the early eighties, they had attempted several means including rainwater harvesting and installation of water pumps through (Public Health Engineering Department) to counter shortage of water supply in the village, but the attempts, somehow remained,’ the council informed. However the concept of installing a borewell ‘pump’ was proposed recently which subsequently led to the project. The council called the project a success.
The council has expressed gratitude to parliamentary secretary for Agriculture Dr. Benjongliba for ‘understanding the suffering and the need of village and providing borewell,’ the note added.
