DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 16: A week-long certificate course in book publishing, organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC) was inaugurated on November 15 by Ram Muivah IAS, secretary of NEC, at the NEC Press Room.
The course aims at building capacity for people interested in publishing as a career.
Muivah felt that there was a need to sustain the habit of reading or to pursue publishing. He assured that the NEC will collaborate with various agencies for skill development of youths in the north eastern region.
The official added that the NBT should hold the certificate course as an annual feature for the north east region in which 20-25 youths from each state in the region can participate. The NEC can provide a matching grant for the purpose, he said.
Dr. K.K. Jhunjhunwala, vice president of Meghalaya Editors & Publishers Association and Professor Shridhar Balan, former India Head of Oxford University Press, were guests at the event.
While appreciating the NEC’s steps toward initiating efforts to promote professional skill development in the region, the guests felt that ‘new modes of book publishing’ should be the thrust area.
Manas Ranjan Mahapatra, the director of Information & Public Relations of the NEC gave a brief account about the course. Narinder Kumar, production officer of the NBT gave an outline of the course and gave an account of book promotional activities. K.H. Kharshiing, planning adviser of the NEC also spoke during the occasion.
