BJP’s bandh call affects normal life

IMPHAL, August 31: The sudden 7-hour lightening bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh from 6 am to 1 pm on Wednesday affects normal life in Manipur particularly in Imphal.
The bandh was called demanding resignation of Deputy Chief Minister for his connection with the controversial police constable 2013 recruitment process, inquiry against the Recruitment Board by an independent investigation agency and accordingly take action against members of the board who were involved in the case.
In view of the bandh, movements of passengers service were almost nil in and around the Imphal town. As result the attendance in the offices and market places were thin during the day even after the proposed 12-hour bandh from dawn to dusk was shorten at 1 pm all of a sudden.
However, there is no report of any unwanted incidents except the usual bandh scene of burning tyres on the roads and blocking the road by the bandh supporters.
Meanwhile, the two BJP MLAs Th Joykishan of Thangmeiband constituency and Th Biswajeet of Thongju constituency who were detained in the judicial custody since Tuesday on charges of disturbing Manipur police recruitment process at Pangei following a court order, were released around 3 pm on Wednesday. We’re released without any condition, MLA Biswajeet said.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur assembly session is scheduled to start from September 2. In another development, Joint Action Committee against the anti-tribal bills on Wednesday observed the ‘Tribal unity day’ at Churachandpur district headquarters by shutting down all the institutions and establishments in the hill town which is located about 65 km south of Imphal.
