Dimapur, Dec. 5: In yet another indication that all is not well within the state BJP ranks, the party on Monday removed three functionaries – including one of its senior-most members – from their respective positions with immediate effect.

The sacked leaders include vice presidents, James Vizo and Mughato Achumi and spokesperson, Yanghose Sangtam. With more than 15 years of involvement in the state BJP unit, James Vizo is one of the senior most members, and has served the party in different capacities.
A press release from the party on Monday stated that the three leaders have been removed from their positions “as directed by the central party leaders”. Their replacements include Vizopal Chaya and Kuputo Shohe as vice presidents, and Jaangsillung Gonmei as spokesperson.

Sources said that the three sacked leaders were informed of their sacking by the state BJP president, Visasolie Lhoungu in a meeting on Monday afternoon. “We asked why we were being removed (from our posts)? We were told that it was a central directive. So we gracefully accepted it,” said one of the sacked leaders who requested anonymity.

When contacted, Lhoungu also said that the decision was based on the directives from the party’s central leaders. “When the time is right, we will let the people know,” he told Eastern Mirror.
